2. Requirements and installation
2.1 Hardware
- Raspberry Pi 3, 4 or 5 (64-bit). To use IDS/IPS, prefer a Pi 4 or 5 with 4 GB of RAM or more.
- microSD card of 8 GB or more.
- A second network port: any USB-Ethernet adapter. The onboard port is usually the LAN and the USB adapter the WAN — but you make the choice on first access.
2.2 Installing on the Raspberry Pi
- Download the
berrycade-<version>.img.xzfile. - Write it to the card with Raspberry Pi Imager (“Use custom” option, without the customization options) or with balenaEtcher.
- Optional: before powering on, open the card's boot partition on your computer and edit the
berrycade.txtfile (hostname, LAN IP, gateway and DNS). - Insert the card into the Pi, connect the LAN port to your network and power on the device.
- Wait about 2 minutes: on the first boot the partition is expanded to fill the whole card.
