Support

How can we help?

BerryCade support happens in GitHub issues: every problem and suggestion is recorded, public and tracked, and you get the replies by email. You need a GitHub account, which is free. Issues can be written in English or Portuguese.

Open an issue

Report a problem

Something doesn't work as it should, a screen shows an error or the device behaves strangely. The issue opens with an outline to fill in.

Report a problem

Suggest an improvement

A missing feature, a tweak to a screen or a better way to do something you already do.

Check whether someone has already reported the same problem: you can follow the fix and add details instead of opening another one.

Before you send

What to include in a report

The more detail, the faster the cause is found.

  1. The BerryCade version, shown in the panel footer or by berrycade status.
  2. The Raspberry Pi model and the amount of memory.
  3. What happened and what you expected, with the steps to reproduce it.
  4. The logs from that moment: Logs & Relatórios › Logs do sistema (System logs) in the panel, or berrycade logs system --limite 100 in the console.
  5. A screenshot, if the problem is visual.

Don't post passwords, PSK keys or backup files. Issues are public. If a log shows a password, a public address or a person's name, remove it before sending.

Frequently asked questions

Solve it before opening an issue

I forgot the panel password

On the Raspberry console (keyboard and monitor, or SSH), run berrycade reset-admin. The admin user comes back with the password admin, and it must be changed at the next login.

I made a change and lost access to the panel

Wait 60 seconds. Every change must be confirmed by the browser using the new rules; without confirmation, the previous configuration comes back on its own. To go further back, use Sistema › Revisões (Revisions), or berrycade revisions and berrycade rollback <revision> in the console.

What is the panel address after installing?

https://10.0.0.99/, with user admin and password admin. The browser will warn that the certificate is unknown: it is generated on the device itself. To use another IP from the first boot, edit berrycade.txt on the boot partition before powering on.

Is the panel available in English?

Not yet: the panel and the command line are in Brazilian Portuguese. The English manual keeps the screen labels in Portuguese, as you will see them, with the English meaning next to them.

A firmware update went wrong. What now?

Firmware goes through a self-test before being activated and rolls back on its own to the previous version if the panel doesn't come up. Up to three versions stay installed: in Sistema › Firmware you can go back to any of them.

A blocked site shows a certificate warning instead of the block page

On HTTPS sites, the block page uses a certificate generated by the BerryCade CA. Install that CA on the devices (Perfis de Segurança › Inspeção SSL, i.e. Security Profiles › SSL Inspection) for the page to appear without a warning. On HTTP sites it appears directly.

Can I use IDS/IPS on a Raspberry Pi 3?

It works, but Suricata uses a lot of memory and CPU. For IDS/IPS turned on all the time, prefer a Pi 4 or 5 with 4 GB of RAM or more.

Which USB network adapters work?

Any USB-Ethernet adapter recognized by Linux (Realtek, ASIX and others). In the setup wizard you choose which port is the LAN and which is the WAN, and the choice is stored by MAC address.

Does BerryCade replace the UniFi controller?

Not yet. In this version UniFi access points are only monitored, over SSH and read-only: the panel shows the APs, their radios and the connected clients. Creating or changing Wi-Fi networks (SSIDs), passwords, VLANs, channels and power is still done on the UniFi controller. The SSH user and password are on the controller, under Settings › System › Advanced › Device SSH Authentication; the step-by-step is in the manual.

Where can I find the manual?

The user manual covers installation, every panel screen, the command line and troubleshooting, in the documentation.
